When attempting to install the installer comes up with a message saying that Clipdiary is running and needs to be closed before the installation can proceed. Since I do not have Clipdiary installed, this is puzzling. Closing Clipdiary with Taskmanager makes no difference, as the message appears over and over preventing the install.

When the installation stops (around 91 %) and the above mentioned message
appears, then just remove it with Task Manager

When the programme says: Invalid key just remove
the LICENSE text so that only the keycode is in
the box

remember to disable the update facility in Options

This is one of the few “must have” tools on my PC, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I download a lot of giveaways, guitar lessons, music videos, how-to sites, etc., and I like to document what things are and where I got them. I often use this with a program called File Note (part of Shell Tools from MoonSoftware). Here are the steps I went through to download the latest Clipdiary from SOS:

Press Ctrl-L to move to title bar of browser (Chrome)
Ctrl-C to copy web address
Select in SOS page from program title to end of description
Press Ctrl-C to copy description
Select in SOS page all the Terms & Conditions and the Technical Details on the right
Press Ctrl-C to copy all this
Click Download Clipdiary Now, get to the Success! page
Select from “Clipdiary (100% Discount)” through the Directions section
Press Ctrl-C to copy all this
Download program
Right-click on SharewareOnSale_Giveaway_Clipdiary_hub.exe
Select File Note, this opens a Notepad file in the same folder, with with same name (but .txt extension instead of .exe)
Press Shift-Ctrl-X 3 times (until the SOS web address shows in Clip Diary’s pop-up window), this pastes the
address into Notepad file. We went back in time about 4 copies.
Press Enter a few times to leave some blank space
Press Shift-Ctrl-C, Clip Diary goes forward to the program description and adds it to the Notepad file.
Press Shift-Ctrl-C, Clip Diary goes forward to the Terms & Conditions and Technical Details, adds them to Notepad file.
Press Shift-Ctrl-C, Clip Diary goes forward to the Success! page information, adds it to the Notepad file.
Press Ctrl-S to save the notepad file.

That looks like a lot of steps but in reality takes only a few extra seconds, I don’t even think about it. I’m left with a good record of what I got, any license expiration details, program key, and what the program does. I could easily grab reviews and comments the same way. There’s no jumping back and forth between copy and paste for each item. No interruption to the process outside of Select and Ctrl-C for anything I want to remember. Then it all gets pasted at once. Only 2 hotkeys to remember, I can handle that!

Notice I didn’t need to click anything in the task tray, didn’t need to select anything from Clipdiary with a mouse. The Shift-Ctrl-X and Shift-Ctrl-C hotkeys move me back and forth through the history of my clips, and when I release the keys, Clipdiary pastes whatever is in its small pop-up window (that’s an option that can be set).

I have mine set to only keep the last 15 clips when a new session starts (Windows restart). This can be set to 0 or a larger number if you want. If you right-click the icon in the system tray, there’s an option to disable (and re-enable) clipboard monitoring. So when I’m entering usernames and passwords, I can quickly tell Clipdiary to stop listening. Very handy, very nice, very safe. Another reviewer didn’t find all these options and down-rated the program. Don’t let their lack of effort discourage you from using Clipdiary!

When needed, being able to call up the list of clips is helpful, and you can delete one or more by selecting, right-click, delete. Or clear all of them. Or have multiple databases for different projects. Or enter “Snippets” that are always saved (like frequently used addresses, greetings, names, or other text you type often). Clipdiary copies graphics and rich text as well, and I can paste unformatted text with Shift-Ctrl-V.

Overall, a very useful tool, with many ways to use it. And yes, it’s been very reliable. My comments are for version 5.0. The Clipdiary web page lists several improvements and fixes in 5.2. I’ve never seen any bugs but I don’t use everything it has to offer.

If Clipdiary somehow doesn’t work for you, I also recommend ArsClip from JoJoSoft. It works very well, free, just not as convenient in my workflow. I’ve tried MANY of these programs, and Clipdiary is my favorite, then ClipaVu (not free), then ArsClip.
