    Again…only a 6 month license.
    Why only 6 months?
Clearly not worth my time to download & install & then in 6 months it stops working.
Useless, because I have others from this site that are lifetime.

Is this license only for 6 months or is it a lifetime license? I was under the impression that this is a lifetime license.
P{lease let me know – thank you!

I use CoolNew PDF PRO for ONE THING – it opens and re-saves ‘damaged’ PDFs that Adobe Acrobat can not open.

Then I go back to free Adobe Acrobat Pro ( versions 5 through CS ) to do what I want to do to the PDF file, align page rotation, OCR text, crop white margins, delete blank pages.

6 months is a trial, and yes, it’s a ‘giveaway’ of sorts, the vendor values it as ~$30.

It’s hard to discern the version, “9” is nowhere to be found, it updates manually on our demand, today to 2022.3.13.2102, beware it then reboots the computer, not just restarting the program.

    There’s a free version:

What’s the difference between a free account and a subscription plan?

    1. The free version can use the PDF reading function

    2. When converting PDF files to other formats, up to 2 pages will be converted

Considering a world at war, within countries, and one country against another, we may prefer to demand more from vendors such as Shenzhen Golden Kiwi Technology Co., Ltd., perhaps that they move to the free world if they want to engage the benefits of the free market.

Or change their government to be an open democracy with an imperative for all-inclusive equality and reduction of suffering.

Nobody’s perfect, but, c/mon, let’s stop killing, and let’s stop destroying, at least.

    Just $aying.

I couldn’t agree more. This killing & destruction & dictators trying to control people is totally unacceptable.
People need to rise up against these dictators & put an end to them so that everyone can live in peace & safety.
What a bunch of garbage these dictators impose on others.

This program was given away here on SoS on January 17th, 2022 as version 6.0. In just 59 days, the program is now being offered here again as version 9.0. Functionally. I do not see anything different between the two. The properties show some differences suggesting the overall product version is the same.
Version 2022.1.7.1197 – Product version 1.0.0.167 (offered as version 6)
Version 2022.2.24.871 – Product version 1.0.0.167 (offered as version 9)
By looking at the dates, the number of days between the two versions is 48 days. During that time, version 7, version 8, and version 9 were created. I guess the company does not choose to publish fractional version numbers.

As for the regular functions of this software, all seem to work as claimed. It is the other nuances of the software that cause some grief..

As Peter Blaise pointed out, the program already has another update and can easily be updated, but rebooting the computer is a big NO-NO!

Also, Peter mentioned that this program could open damaged files that Adobe cannot open. I tried the program on the sample corrupt file provided by PDFFixer here back on 2022-01-21/ The program failed with the message “Can not open “corrupt_sample.pdf”! This format can not be supported or files has been destroyed.” I learned from another program that the corrupt_sample.pdf file has an invalid reference table.

I have another sample corrupt file from another program, but CoolNew PDF had the same problem opening the file. I have another PDF reader that can open some damaged PDF files that Adobe cannot. It has the option to fix the PDF file, providing it can first read it. In the case of the sample corrupted PDF files I had access to, it could not open them either.

I do know that some other PDF readers are implementing the ability to read damaged or corrupt files, so hopefully soon, Adobe will be able to help solve this problem.

The company is attempting to promote this product as a subscription product at $29.99 every six months or $49.99 every year. Your subscription will be automatically renewed. That will be a difficult thing to sell given that there are several alternatives at a much more affordable price. If the program was $5 per year, I would still not consider it.

This program is highly insistent on making the user change the default PDF program to be CoolNew PDF. The install has it hidden in the initial step (you have to choose Custom install to turn it off). Next, when the program starts (and every time it starts), the prompt is there to make CoolNew PDF the default PDF program (Set CoolNew PDF as the default PDF program). That line is followed by a line that states “PDF files are easier to open” (as if the CoolNew PDf has some difficulty opening PDF files otherwise). That in itself would make me leery. PDF files are as easy or as difficult to open as any other file type. If you fall for this, you have the options of Cancel or OK, except there is a big difference in the appearance of those two choices. The OK is white text on the orange background button (stands out prominently), but the Cancel button looks to be greyed out. It does work though, except before clicking on it, notice at the bottom left, there is a checkbox labeled “Always set to default.” Is that a trick even if you click Cancel? I tried it just to see. I left the box checked, then clicked on Cancel. I exited the program, then located a PDF file. When I double-clicked on it, the file was opened by … my regular default PDF program. So far, it does not appear to be a trick when you click Cancel.

Since the OK button would change the default to CoolNew PDF, why is the checkbox there at all? There is a reason. CoolNew PDF wants to make it more difficult for you to change your mind later, such as switching back to your previous default PDF program. By now, most users have experienced a program changing default programs without asking. This is known as “tampering.” Therefore, some programs now have built-in a test to see if a default that was chosen by a user while using their program has been changed by a different program or even user. The checking program will simply change the default back to itself.

Both of these tactics are irritating to have to deal with. There should be a choice in Settings for those that wish to choose CoolNew PDF, and eliminate the other repeating attempts to get users to switch. There is a Settings choice to “Set as default reader” with the added line “It is recommended that CoolNew PDF be set as default reader” without an explanation why it is “recommended.”

When you exit the program for the first time, you will receive a prompt asking for a review in exchange for a six-month license. The product manager (supposedly Aurora) explains. “As a brand new product, we need to listen to your voice to improve and optimize our products, …”

Aurora is not the product manager for CoolNew PDF as claimed. The same image is used on:
primefaces [.] org as Amy Elnser.
stackoverflow [.] com as Rayzha Putri
simplenursong [.] com as Amy Stricklen.
hloom [.] com as Monique N.
token [.] art giving a 5 star review as Negative Star
mymedicalcareer [.] org as Jordyn W.
    craftwork [.] design [/] downloads [/] silvercell-ios-ui-kit [/] as Alexa Tenorio

I hope whoever has the position that the fake Aurora (is claiming to have) is reading and will make an effort to remove the irritants of the existing product. Maybe start by getting a real product manager.

After my second or third time exiting the program, a prompt near the System Tray asked if I liked the program, allowing me to vote. That prompt didn’t stay around long.

[@Sean] “Yes, world peace through world trade.” – T J Watson, IBM. We don’t bomb our customers or vendors. Yes, the problem is dictators who cross a threshold of power where their own people fear challenging them. We participants at SOS SharewareOnsale have the power to enter into conversations and dialog with China and Russia through their people’s programs here. Why not? Let’s do it.

[@Gary] Yes, a broken PDF is an unknown, so whatever worked for me, others may never see, because their broken PDFs, of course, will be other files, not the one I had. I have a handful of PDF programs, plus uploading to web services, and I toss a broken PDF at them all. Once a file is ‘fixed’, I then tend to work in Adobe because it’s familiar. CoolNewPDF features are so ambiguously named that I can’t imagine what they do, nor can I find any controls I am familiar with in Adobe. Adobe ain’t perfect, just familiar – the devil you know.

    Thoughts, anyone?

Ashraf, thanks for letting us explore this and share.

Hello, I cant’t finish my registration on PDF PRO whit my key. It’s frustrating…

The SOS ‘key’ is a coupon, NOT a key, you get yet another ‘key’ after registering an account at CoolNewPDF, THAT is the ‘key’.

So, are you trying a CooNewPDF key, or the SOS coupon?

    Tell us more.

Wow, so many ‘Stay AWAY From This’ items brought up in Gary’s review ! Now even more glad that I did skip it.

    @Peter,
I’ve tried various attempted installs of different-source free editions of Adobe, but they always bombed out while loading with cryptic errors I could not work my way past. (Always some key files missing, or by-now-obsolete supporting files which need to be replaced by other alternative files, and never quite getting there.) This was in Win 7 x64, then later on in Win 10 Pro x64. So I basically gave up on it. Not enough time or trouble available to grapple with this. Meanwhile, there are *many* other PDF reader / editor programs out there. Not especially satisfactory, though moderately serviceable ones.
