    Emergency Boot Kit

Emergency Boot Kit (formerly Emergency Boot CD) is a powerful toolset for data recovery and fixing unbootable computers. It is a self-contained bootable OS on USB thumbdrive with the following features:

File Manager: Backup and restore files without Windows (has full support for Unicode and NTFS)
Windows Password Wizard: Restore access to your PC when you forgot the password for Windows user account
Registry Tools: Registry Editor (edit Registry even if Windows is not bootable) and Registry Defragmenter (reorganize Registry in such way that logically adjacent data is located physically nearby, so Registry works faster).
Mount & Boot Center: Fix various boot problems and reassign drive letters outside of Windows.
Partition Manager: Create, format, delete and wipe partitions; backup partitions to image files, restore them back, and copy partition-to-partition.

Was aware of the former EBCD, which I thought had been free ?
There have been other diagnostic / repair utility sets like this for a number of years. They tend to boot into a self-contained Linux, plus have Win-PE and DOS boot options. Various programs can be run from there. You should be able to find these with some basic online searches. These include Multiboot 2K10, Hirens (a new edition every 2 – 3 years on average, but look for the “Restored”, complete and unexpurgated version, which would be preferred), and the ~ twice a year set from Sergei Strelec. The latter has been very good for years now, but it emanates from Russia, and so I would have some concerns about its continued integrity ever since the current war.

After checking with our developers the most probably solution is that a security program stops our exe file
from writing on the USB stick. Or alternatively the USB stick could be write-protected/ read only and is therefore empty.
Could you please check both and please add an exception to your security software?
Thanks a lot and Best regards,

Ok, so it appears that the program doesn’t install anything… Run it, enter registration code and it then lets you create a bootable DVD or flash drive. I *like* that approach!

One question: how much space does the boot disk require? A 32 GB USB dive? 8 GB? A CD or DVD?
Another question: if I create an ISO image, what’s the best way to create a bootable USB drive or disk, and will it work for both?

It installed fine to my USB and I was able to boot my laptop to their (archaic-looking) menu. I have yet to explore why this is any better than a Windows rescue disk.
