I have the Windows 10 64bit (1st Anniversary Updated) and I’m getting the same error message as apparently everybody else. How can you close the program that you’re trying to install in order to install it??? Classic Catch22!!!

Yes, Schloss has the answer for registration. install the program, copy ALL of the license info on the page taken to by “Registration file for above” (in red) to the file vopt9reg.txt… make one if it doesn’t exist in the Vopt9 program file and when you restart VOPT, it will say that it is Registered, compliments of the author. I was also confused when the instructions said to double click on the file, vopt9reg.txt and then click Register… I had no file named vopt9reg.txt

You need to save in Notepad not as a .txt file but as Vopt9.reg and then it works fine as a Complimentary Copy

Since this is a bequest by the author of the program is there any time limit on the download or installation?

My favorite defrag program for many years :)
It has that really cool hover mouse function that shows you what the file is behind the “map”
Thanks for making this version available for free .
    Works on win7 ok.

    CORRECTED DIRECTION TO INSTALL:
    DOWNLOAD DIRECTLY FROM: http://goldenbow.com/nudownload.htm
The download link for Vopt is provided to you above. Download and install Vopt. After install, do not run Vopt yet-ALSO FOR ERRORS AS ABOVE ON INSTALL, JUST LOG OUT & IN AGAIN OR RESTART IN ORDER TO CLOSE ANY PREVIOUS INSTALL. First, open Notepad(.TXT) and create a new file called Vopt9reg.txt
In that file, copy and paste in the following:

    [Names]
    1=COMPLIMENTARY LICENSE^ COURTESY OF THE AUTHOR^ ENJOY!

Save the file. Next, copy and paste the file Vopt9reg.txt into Vopt’s Program Files folder in your C: drive:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Golden Bow\Vopt 9
Now run Vopt and enjoy, NEGODAN- I JUST CORRECTED THE PROCEDURE!

Sad to learn that VOPT.com is shutting down but Barry’s legacy will live on. So everytime you open VOPT think of Barry and appreciate what his gift to us means.

I just got an email from Elizabeth at VOPT.com with the following instructions for Registering:

HOW TO REGISTER VOPT9 FOR WINDOWS XP, 2000, OR 2003 SERVER

Copy the attached registration file, Vopt9reg.txt, onto your desktop. When you open Vopt9 your registration information will appear on the screen.

How To: Right-click on the attachment icon Vopt9reg.txt, and select Copy.
Right-click on an empty area of your desktop and select Paste.

Save vopt9reg.txt in a safe place in case your system crashes and you need to reinstall Vopt9.

HOW TO REGISTER VOPT9 FOR VISTA OR WINDOWS 7

Copy the attached registration file, Vopt9reg.txt, onto your desktop.

How To: Right-click on the attachment icon Vopt9reg.txt, and select Copy.
Right-click on an empty area of your desktop and select Paste.

Open Vopt9 and click on Help, then click on About Vopt, then click on Register.

Close Vopt9 and open it again. Your contact information will appear in a splash screen.

Save vopt9reg.txt in a safe place in case your system crashes and you need to reinstall Vopt9.

If this doesn’t register Vopt9 in your name, try this:

    Close Vopt9.

Open the registration file by double-clicking on the filename “Vopt9reg.txt.”

A new window will open. The blue top line of the window will say Vopt9reg.txt – Notepad.

Open the Vopt9 program and click on Help on the light-blue second line from the top. On the menu which will appear, click on About Vopt. Then click the box which says “Register.”

A message will instruct you to complete registration by closing the Vopt9 program and then reopening it. When you reopen Vopt9 your information will appear on the screen.

[@mardel] I had the same problem with 64 bit Windows 10. The new “Downloader” program is a problem. I tried another program today, “Photo Pos Pro”. It installs but when one tries to open a photo is crashes.
