Description

This app will assist electric utility line designers and stakers in determining the bisect of a line angle for the purpose of placing or checking guy/anchor installations that support overhead utility lines. The app can be used in "Manual " mode to enter compass readings from another device like a digital compass or a traditional magnetic compass. The user can also use the "Device" mode to view and capture, from the mobile device's compass, the back span and front span azimuth for an existing or proposed line through the device's camera. The app calculates the bisect, reverse bisect and line angle based on the two numbers entered or captured by the user.

Each azimuth, A or B, is set by the user touching the green or blue number inside the box. Doing so will capture the current compass value shown in the center of the screen below the reticle and set A or B to this value.

The Bisect is the optimal direction for a bisect guy wire as it leaves the pole location. The user can turn the device to this azimuth to view where the guy/anchor should be installed.

The reverse bisect represents the direction of the guy wire as it leaves the anchor location running toward the pole. The user can use this result to stake out anchor locations while standing at a desired distance from the pole location.

The line angle is the angle that the front span azimuth varies from the back span azimuth plus 180 degrees. A straight (or tangent) line will have a line angle of 0 degrees.

No gps data is captured by the device and no data files are created by this app. However, results can be saved by using device screen capture.

The accuracy of this app is only as good as the values entered by the user or those captured from the device compass. Every magnetic compass is subject to magnetic interference. The accuracy of the result should be verified by the user by comparison with known points. The device compass should be calibrated before each use by employing the "compass calibration maneuver" (moving the device in a figure 8 pattern).

For best accuracy when in "Device" mode, use a tripod or monopole mount for your device. Contact Reliance Safety and Design for details.
