Reviews for CodeLobster PHP Edition
Every programmer and web developer needs a fast and efficient editor (IDE) which helps them to quickly and efficiently write error-free code. With a ton of editors available, it is very difficult to choose the one that suits your needs.
CodeLobster PHP Edition is an effective and efficient editor (IDE) that can help you write PHP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS codes. It comes packed with great features packed in a simple and user-friendly interface. It is especially designed for web designers who make responsive websites and use PHP for it.

The download size is fairly small (~47MB) and the installation process is straightforward and simple. During the installation process is asks you to select the file types that you want to open with this application using double-click on the files in Explorer. It also asks you to select your preferred color scheme in the next step. That’s all you need to do to start using the editor. Editor contains all the basic features like other editors and a lot of complex features too for experienced programmers and coders.
Pros
Feature-rich Editor
This editor is packed with a lot of features to make coding easier and effective. Auto-completion feature enables users to quickly and efficiently write code in PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. A wide range of code completion listings make the whole coding process faster and easier, HTML5 and CSS3 support is also available.
Different types of codes are highlighted with different colors, making the code easier to understand and writing comfortable. It can be very useful in situations when combination of PHP, HTML, JavaScript or CSS codes are present in a single file.
The editor also has the ability to collapse the code, it can be useful when you do not want one section of code to distract you while you’re writing the other one. The paired highlighting feature lets you highlight a tag and its attributes together so it is easier to edit the code. There is also built-in browser preview to take a look at how your code is turning out in the browser, moreover there is a split window option that is helpful when you need to compare codes of different files.

Cons
UI looks outdated
The UI is not impressive and lacks the modern and intuitive element that is present in other editors. The tool is feature-packed and works well but the UI does matter too as it counts to your overall coding experience a lot.

I feel the following note should be added to this review of CodeLobster PHP Edition **Lite** (it appears when you download the giveaway):
“Please note: This giveaway is of CodeLobster PHP Edition’s Lite version, which normally costs $39.95. However, you will see a 15-day trial for the plugins feature because plugins is a feature of the Pro version, which is not part of this giveaway.”
So when Malik says “It comes with support for all famous CMS and frameworks”, it should be “the Pro version comes with support for all famous CMS and frameworks” or “As a giveaway, it comes with support for all famous CMS and frameworks for 15 days only”.
This is not meant to criticize a fishy giveaway. Quite the opposite we can thank CodeLobster (and SoS) for a very generous lifetime 3-computer offer !
When it comes to coding, the editor you choose for a project may determine your productivity. Actually, a code editor can also influence the efficiency of your lines of code. Having mentioned that, you might probably be asking yourself how to go about choosing the best editor. The answer to that question is definitely not a straightforward one. There are a ton of editors and finding one that suits may require you to test it yourself. In my case, I tried out CodeLobser PHP Edition and here is what I found.
At a Glance
CodeLobser PHP Edition offers a bunch of useful features like effective auto-complete, code highlighting, and context and dynamic help. At the same time, you have access to a respectable range of Plugins to choose from. As such, the IDE scores highly when it comes to compatibility with other PHP platforms.
Pros
Helpful Autocomplete
There is one thing that most Integrated Development Environments provide; and that is autocomplete. However, having used Netbeans, I must note that CodeLobser PHP Edition’s autocomplete was smooth and effective. At the same time, the JavaScript Advanced autocomplete that the program supports will let you code JavaScript easily thanks to the already bundled elements and properties.
Easy Creation and Opening of Projects
Apart from being a code editor, I found CodeLobser PHP Edition to be a really good piece of program on instances that I wanted to create new projects. When creating a projects, you can choose from a range of types from a CakePHP Site, Drupal Site, to a WordPress Site. As such, you will have a smooth time hitting the ground running when you are getting started. Opening existing projects is also simple since the IDE supports a good number of them.
Resourceful Plugins Option
One thing that stood out about CodeLobser PHP Edition is its ability to support code structures from other PHP platforms. It does so through its Plugins Menu option. Under this option, you will be able to do a ton of things. For instance, you can download the AngularJS Framework and work with it within CodeLobser PHP Edition. Other sub-options include jQuery, Meteor JS, WordPress, CodeIgniter, and BackboneJS.
Con
Utilitarian User Interface
Although IDE needs to be functional and deliver as expected, we are at the time and age where the user experience based on the interface of apps also matters. My experience in using CodeLobser PHP Edition pretty smooth except for the fact that its interface was rather unengaging.
Verdict
Although user preferences play an important part in choosing an IDE, its functionality can be the deal breaker. In the case of CodeLobser PHP Edition, it definitely delivers hence would help you code faster and effectively. Its support for other PHP platforms is also another plus. Such combination of features makes it a worthy download.
Codelobster php edition
Choosing an IDE is one of the most tasking jobs when embarking on a programming journey. If experience is anything to go by, choosing right on the word go is crucial since most programmers, I included, tend to stick with their first decision. I’m going to give you my impressions of Codelobster, PHP edition and what I think of it.
At a glance, you will find that Codelobster isn’t the jack of all trades like my favorite Notepad++, neither is it bulky as the wieldy and useful Netbeans. It is a niche specific cross of the two that won’t tie up your resources with unnecessary plugins or make you feel inadequate when the going gets tough. All you have to do is stick to a PHP centric development world.
Pros
Integrated Project Management
A great IDE gives you some means of creating a project and managing it without launching your computer’s native file explorer. Lobster’s approach to project management is not only comprehensive but also an utter simplicity.
It supports direct project creation for popular frameworks like CakePHP, Symfony and Yii while CMS developers will find the top three CMS natively supported by Codelobster. Quite convenient.
Impressive Code Editor that Does Most of the Heavy Lifting
While a good programmer knows his or her code, nothing is as welcome as a tool that gives you auto-complete options or gives you a way to include common controls into your code without typing. Codelobster’s auto complete can be tuned to a specific environment from the view menu hence increasing its suggestion accuracy.
The edit menu strip at the top lets you insert things like tables and layouts without writing a line of code while the auto group, indent and justify options guarantees you of neat and human readable code. This will come in handy when refractoring, debugging or modifying code in future.
The Built-In SQL Manager Works Like a Charm
To be honest, I’ve never come across such a light weight IDE with database integration. With most of the projects communicating with a database in a way, you will find the built-in SQL manager quite efficient when building your databases and writing code to interphase with them.
A Huge Plugins Library
Codelobster’s plugin manager will let you download additional framework directly into your project. I must, however, mention that you have to find the framework URL or repository on your own and add the URL into the importer to finish. Not so cheesy but nonetheless convenient.
Cons
No Drag and Drop to Open Files
I’m especially ‘lazy’ and dislike loading files using the File> open dialog. Codelobster seems to have ignored my feelings and doesn’t include the so efficient drag and drop to open feature that seems to proliferate the competition.
The User Interface is A Bit Archaic
I know, user interface isn’t really a point when discussing software performance. But still… Codelobster features an outdated user interface. The best look I could get is for VisualStudio 2005. It really doesn’t affect how I work but it will stick out as a sore thumb around the modern UI deployments.
Conclusion
Codelobster for PHP is a sound development environment that will have every PHP centered development covered. It doesn’t matter whether you are on a CMS or a PHP framework. You will always have a specific development environment, specific cues and debugging options that go a long way into making your life simpler.
