FolderClone is a ‘set it and forget it’ synchronization solution for Windows. FolderClone provides fast, flexible and easy backup, synchronization, replication, and mirroring of important files on most storage media. FolderClone is beneficial to individual users, small businesses (SOHO), and large corporations.
Individual users will find FolderClone essential for backing up their data files and/or synchronizing their laptops to their desktops. For large enterprises and small businesses alike, FolderClone is part of the network infrastructure needed to maintain high file availability, protect your files, and share files throughout your organization.
FolderClone arranges your synchronization needs in sets of “tasks”. A task is a set of specifications which tells FolderClone what files/folders you want to be copied, where you want them copied, and how often you want this done. Once configured, FolderClone compares the “source” folder against the “target” folder at the user defined time intervals. Changes or additions to the source folder are copied to the target folder. Files and folders which exist on the target folder but not on the source folder are deleted. (Optionally, the deletion can be turned off). This process runs automatically in the background without any further user interaction required.
FolderClone is not intended to backup complete systems. Its primary use is to backup data files that would be irreplaceable should a disaster occur.

Reviews for FolderClone
I used it before and it is a good software doing what it claims effortlessly.
It is always a good option to have another copy of your important files, just in case something happens to the original ones. Moreover, backups can be useful in situations like data loss and system and hardware failure. However, manual back up is not an easy job, and can get very frustrating if there’s a lot of content to back up.
FolderClone is a specialized application that can automate the whole process. Along with fast, flexible and easy back ups, it provides synchronization, replication, and mirroring of important files on most storage media. This tool can be used be individual users and small businesses to large firms. As for individual users its a tool for backing up data, for small businesses to large firms however, it is part of the network infrastructure needed to maintain high file availability, protect your files, and share files throughout your organization.
Overview
The installer size is small (~6MB) and the installation process is simple and straightforward. The initial window shows up empty, but that large white space is where all the tasks you create would appear. Details like name, source, target, next run, and last run are shown for tasks and they can be filtered by clicking the column header. The upper toolbar contains all the features and options.
Pros
Simple UI and easy task creation
The user interface is simple and easy to use. This allows users carrying out tasks like creating a new task or deleting one easily. Moreover, the wizard that pop ups during a task guides you through steps, helping you choose the best options to complete the task. Creating a task only requires selecting two folders, one source and the other one destination.
Great Features
There’s a bunch of features available to suit your needs. There are four file comparison methods: Date/Time, Size, Contents, and CRC32. One-to-many synchronization enables users to sync one source folder with multiple target folders. The synchronization, replication, mirroring of data is uni-directional.
Runs in the background
It runs in the background unattended and can check folders at user defined intervals. Process Priority rules can be defined to allow control of CPU utilization during certain hours of the day. It also loads at Windows Startup and resides in the System Tray.
Fast synchronization speeds
FolderClones does the synchronization job quicker than any of the other back up tool I have tried so far. It does not take much time at all.
Copy and Delete options
Copy options include the ability to maintain the source file’s create time stamp, and a Safe Copy option which ensures that the target file is not deleted unless the copy operation is successful. Delete options include Delete Permanently, Send To Recycle Bin, Do Not Delete, and Secure Delete.
Cons
Out-date User Interface
The software does its job perfectly and works well, however it’s UI seems to be old and out-dated. There’s a lot of better back up solution tools with moderns and intuitive interfaces.
My Favourite Features
Runs in background
Once you set it up and create desired tasks, you no longer have to worry about it. It starts up with Windows automatically and runs the processes according to the users preferences.
Fast Synchronization
This feature is what makes this tool better than others of its type. Other tools have slow speeds which can be very frustrating.
Conclusion
FolderClone is an application you can rely on to keep your files and folders safe, synchronized and backed up. It lets backups automatically created for important files and folders, with a powerful scheduler that can run when the computer is idle, and various filter options. Although it lack a little on visuals, but is still easy enough to be used with ease by novices to experienced users. The software is definitely worth trying.
I download a bunch of things from youtube and they tend to pile up on my local machine which ends up on my backup drive. I often delete stuff my the local machine but neglect the backup drive. This utility very quickly gets rid of the stuff I don’t have on the local drive from the bu drive – very handy!
I don’t like the smallness of the dialog boxes for selecting the source and target drives.
I also get a persistent error, here is the error:
Unexpected Error in module: cClone.AddTargetSubfolderAndFilesToFileOpsList
Error: Object variable or With block variable not set
Source: cClone. AddTargetSubfolderAndFilesToFileOpsList
Number: 91
Line Number: 230

FolderClone is a piece of software that would fit into a wide range of scenarios involving file backup, mirroring, replication, and synchronization. It also cuts across the board in terms of the people who would find it useful; from individuals and small businesses to large firms. After incorporating this software into your network infrastructure, file sharing, protection, and availability will reliable in the whole setup.
At a Glance
Right off the bat, FolderClone seemed like a package that focuses on getting the job done. The main options that are simply arranged across the top bar gives the impression of easy usage, which is actually the case. As you explore the software’s options, the more you would get to smaller and flexible options that determine how the software works for you.
Pros
Wide Range of Features
After installing FolderClone, you will get a whole bunch of useful features that presents flexibility in how you want to manage your files and folder synchronization. For instance, you can choose to synchronize one source folder to multiple target folders. At the same time, you can take advantage of the four file comparison approaches to synchronize files the way you want.
Fast Synchronization
I have used several other cloud backup services whose core function is synchronizing files and new changes. At times, such services tend to take long for complete synchronization. Having said so, I was impressed by FolderClone’s fast synchronization. Such fast execution speeds are due to the program’s usage of assembly language algorithms.
Easy-to-Use Options
Once you are through with installing FolderClone, you will face minimal challenges in using the different features it presents. Be it creating a new task or deleting one, the wizard that will pop up will guide you through the steps as you choose what suits you. In addition, you should also notice the Quick Start guide for the software that pops when you run it.
Notable Flexibility
As I was using FolderClone I noted how flexible it was. Right from the Options menu, there are many configuration settings that you can choose to suit what you really want. Top of the list of features with further options are the File comparison method, Delete Methods, and Copy Methods.
Cons
Buggy Operations
You will notice FolderClone buggy operation while in the process of choosing the source folder. Although not often, after choosing a specific folder then notice it was a mistake and you want to go back, the program will still remember the first option. The way I found for going round this bug is by cancelling the operation and start the folder selection process all over.
Does Not Accept Certain Date Formats
I usually have my personalized date format on my system. Unfortunately, it turned out that I could not use that format while creating a New Task in FolderClone. That was really inconveniencing since I had to go to Control Panel to change the format to match was needed before I proceeded.
Utilitarian Interface
I cannot take away the fact that this piece of software really does what its developer Salty Brine intended. However, its user experience was rather old-fashioned given the tons of software out there with nice and intuitive interfaces.
Verdict
If you are looking for a simple solution that can quickly fit into your network infrastructure and help you in file organization and synchronization, then look no further than FolderClone. The software has a wide range of option that would require time to fully explore. Having said that though, it will get the job done despite its utilitarian interface.
