Control your computer by making gestures in front of your webcam.
This is the greatly improved version of the popular freeware edition of GiMeSpace Cam Control. The Pro version uses even less CPU power, has an improved recognition algorithm and now enables you to simulate left and right mouse clicks!
Control your computer with movements is easy by simply making gestures in front of your webcam. You can simulate mouse movements, mouse clicks, the keyboard cursor keys, or control the GiMeSpace virtual desktop managers. This is useful when you need to have some distance from your computer so you can remotely control it. Also people with disabilities can make use of this program.
This program allows you to control your computer by making movements with a flat hand in front of your webcam. There are 5 gestures:
– move in horizontal direction while your hand is vertical.
– move in vertical direction while your hand is horizontal.
– move in horizontal direction with 2 hands making a ‘zooming’ gesture.
– left mouse click by moving your hand in the left upper corner.
– right mouse click by doing the left click plus moving the right hand in the
right upper corner.
To control a GiMeSpace virtual desktop manager, you need to use one that is capable of this. These are the minimum versions that support this:
GiMeSpace Desktop Extender version 2.3.0
GiMeSpace Desktop Extender 3D version 3.1.0
You can adjust the sensitivity and the scroll/movement speeds by adjusting the trackbars. You will need to experiment a bit to find the ideal settings.
While developing this program most effort was made to minimize the load on your cpu so that it can even be run on low powered netbooks and does not affect other programs that much. This is a major difference with other cam tracking software (like camspace, face track etc), they are using way to much cpu power! GiMeSpace Cam Control uses about 4% load on a 2Ghz dual core and about 15% on a 1.6Ghz single core netbook.

Reviews for GiMeSpace Cam Control Pro
I tested this program many years ago, I thought is was a fun concept and had some good time trying it out, but it was clearly still in development.
Recently a friend found good use for this program in his shop, on the inside of the display window he put a big screen and a camera in such a way that people passing by could interact with what was being displayed on the screen, it was a big success and people really stopped and had some fun interacting with his display.
I can see many more similar uses for this program interacting with a display from a distance.
Testing now the latest Pro version I can say that it has improved a lot. It is still tricky to get the settings right but it is now a lot more responsive.
Emulating the left and right mouse clicks is not as easy as moving the mouse around, but with a bit of experience it works.
If you have a laptop and constantly moving around you probably need to change the settings all the time. A suggestion for the author to make it possible to save different settings?
With the advancement in technology, humans have developed new methods to interact with the machines they’ve built. From buttons to touch screen to gestures, interaction with computers and mobile phones has been becoming more advanced and efficient.
GiMeSpace CamControl is a software application that let’s you move the mouse pointer simply by waving your hands in front of a connected webcam, you can also your control game by using your own body as a joystick.
Overview
The installer size is ~1MB only and the installation process is quick and simple. After launching it for the first time, you have to select your device from the drop-down menu on the main UI so you can set it up. There are many settings and options to tweak around with and choose the best ones for you.
Pros
Simple UI
The UI of this application is pretty straighforward and simple. It contains 3 tabs, namely ‘Camera Options’, ‘Movements’, and ‘Help’. Users can adjust different settings like sensitivity, brightness, contrast, hue , saturation etc. Moreover, you can also adjust camera settings like zoom, focus, tilt, pan and also adjust the speed of turning movements.
Different emulation modes
There are different modes that you can choose, like keyboard, mouse (absolute/relative movements), and joystick. It also has a directX input keyboard mode for games that work with X-input.
Cons
Mouse Pointer does not move
Even after setting up in a bright environment and tweaking with settings for some time, the mouse pointer refused to move. And the times when it did move, there was a lot of stutter in the mouse pointer movements.
Needs work & time to mature
Although it is a great idea to be able to control your games and PC with your body, but it is very difficult to do it. This tool is built upon an innovative idea, if the developer continues doing work, this tool might become something that everyone would love to use on daily basis.
Expensive for it’s quality & performance
$25 for a software application that does not even work reliably is way too expensive. This price would seem fair only if the application is improved and works well.
Conclusion
GiMeSpace CamControl is a software application designed to change the way you interact with your computer and play games on it. The software is not mature yet and needs a lot of work to be used to play games in reality. I love the idea and the thought on which this tool was built.
