Heads On Display is a handy time-saver for developers who use `git.`

How do YOU check your current `git` branch when you're not already using the command line? In the past, you've probably done something like this:

1. Launch Terminal
2. Type `cd /to/the/project/dir`
3. Type `git branch` (or, if you've got `git-prompt.sh` set up, you might skip this step)
4. Scroll back to look for your current HEAD
5. Try to remember where you started, and move on…

But now with Heads On Display, this oft-repeated process can be replaced by the much simpler:

1. Glance up

Now get back to developing!

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW:
=====================

Heads On Display keeps your favorite repos' current branch name on the status bar at all times, and provides one-click access to an unlimited number of other local working directories. Simply drag an existing local repo's top-level folder onto its menu bar icon, and your current branch is instantly moved to the top of the list!

*** Check out our Web site for a complete overview of the app! ***

Switch between any number of repos with a single click, or open a selected projects' root folder in Finder with a simple Alt+Click (giving you instant access to your source code as a bonus).

The order in which the repos are presented can easily be adjusted within the app's Preferences panel, and you can easily drag repos in and out of the list from here, too.

ADVANCED TIP:
==============

Here's where the coolness starts…

Heads On Display adds no new files to your project by itself, but you can create an optional, hidden ".heads" folder at the top level of your project to customize and share exactly how your repo is displayed — making it even easier for you to spot your favorite projects if the list of monitored directories grows over time.

And because these settings are file-based, they can be stored along with the rest of your git repository, making it easy to share your custom settings with the rest of your team — without interrupting their workflow! (Of course, you can always add these files to the .ignore file, too, if you want to keep this coolness to yourself).

To add a custom icon, simply include a 72×72 pixel PNG file (or any size — the image will be automatically scaled to fit) named "icon.png" within the hidden ".heads" top-level project directory, and voila – instant artwork! (And if you want to change the default name shown within the UI, simply add a new title to a separate file name "title.txt" within the same directory).

For instance:

local_repo_dir/.heads/icon.png
local_repo_dir/.heads/title.txt

OS SUPPORT
===================
Heads on Display works independently of your favorite IDE, editor, etc., providing your current git repository's branch info on the status bar of:

* OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)
* OS X Mavericks (10.9)
* OS X Yosemite (10.10)
* OS X El Capitan (10.11)

It fully supports Mac App sandboxing while providing global shortcut-key access, launch-on-login convenience and minimal power, CPU and memory requirements.

It's made to stay out of your way — for developers, by developers.
