Reviews for PhotoToFilm
terrible, aweful rendering of the finished video!. i uninstalled it right away.
Provided you own a digital camera and you like taking photos, the idea of making a really nice and cool of the compilation of your photos will always crop up. I have been looking for a lightweight alternative to accomplishing my need for videos comprising of transitioning photos that I take on a regular basis. During my search, I happened to bump into PhotoToFilm. This is my experience after using the software.
At a Glance
In terms of being lightweight, PhotoToFilm really lived up to the occasion with its less than 2-MB installation file. Within minutes, I was through with the download and installation process and already checking out its safely-implemented interface. I say safe because the developers of the program managed to implement a number of handy features on the main window but still managed to keep it clean.
Pros
Low Learning Curve
Using PhotoToFilm is straight up easy. From the right hand side of the main window, just click on the Add Files button then select the images you want to use. After that, you will the option to Add a Soundtrack before choosing the Output folder and hitting the Go button.
Cons
Limited Support for Audi Files
Although the developer describes PhotoToFilm as a program that would help you create small movies of your photos with support for Soundtrack, that option has its limitations. The program provides two of ways that you can use to add an audio file. The Sound option at the top bar and the option to Browse for a Soundtrack in the main interface. When you try both options, you will only be able to add MP3 audio.
Limited Output File Type Support
After you have added your image files to the application and you want to create the video file, PhotoToFilm limits you to saving in AVI video file format. That limitation is quite a big convenience especially if you want to share and use the file on different devices which may not support AVI. The other way to go around that limitation is to use another program to convert the video to another file type.
Poor Rendering Mechanism
In your collection of photos, some may be of higher resolutions while others taken in low resolution. If you all those images to PhotoToFilm, it tends to render them the same way hence stretching the low resolution photos and making them lose their quality even further. At the same time, the program also limits you on the resolution of the output videos to 720p or lower.
Verdict
PhotoToFilm tries to simply the process of creating small video files of your photos but fails on so many fronts. Its limited support for different audio files as Soundtracks and saving videos only in AVI are things you would want to consider before digging into your pocket to purchase this software. If you are also into High Definition videos above 720p, then you will have to look for an alternative too. As such, PhotoToFilm would work only for basic image transition needs.
If you are tired of viewing your photos the traditional way, you might have consider transforming your photos it some sort of continuous film without breaking sweat, you should consider PhotoToFilm. The app is an amazing solution to guys who want this done in the right way.
Pros
Easy Use
The utter simplicity of the app is something you will fall in love with at first glance. Actually, that could be pretty much all there is to fall in love with. All you have to do is add a couple of photos, choose your settings and click on the go button. The result is a rather different slideshow with an interesting cross-fading feature that makes all the resulting slide shows rather interesting.
Add Text to Your Movies
If you would love to root out the commentary during the slideshows, you should consider using the on video text insertion that lets you add text to the video you create. I found this especially useful when creating a video that will have to explain on each photo to give the viewers a great impression.
Audio for More Fun
Throwing in a couple of audio feeds will definitely make it better. You will even have the option of matching the audio to the resulting video’s FPS hence making the entire experience more interesting.
Cons
Limited Transitions
I found the transitions rather limited. You can just but make so much movies before becoming redundant and bored of the resulting videos. It will be quite the setback if you intent to get a couple of videos all at a go.
Not So Good a Resolution
The resolution maxes out at 720×576. That is barely HD. This means that the resulting videos are a bit of a disappointment especially if you began with HD photos. If you don’t mind the lesser resolution, you can look over this and focus on playing the dynamic changes for a better look.
No Control Over the Options
I only got three options. Cross fading, dynamic pictures and on video text insertion. This isn’t really enough to come up with interesting videos that will keep everyone interested over time.
Verdict
PhotoToFilm is a great one hit wonder. I don’t think it will give me great diversity when I am creating multiple videos from my photos. The one video you create will however be a great way to present your photos – especially if you get the photo order right from the word go.
