Reviews for Windscribe VPN
Many reasons exist for one to use a VPN. The most important reason is privacy. Given the ever-increasing cases of cyberattacks, you have all the rights to secure your sensitive information and you surf the web. In the process of browsing the internet with a virtual private network program like Windscribe VPN, which I have been using in the past few days, you also get access to geo-restricted content
hank you very much for this amazing deal. I love it :)
Its awesome! Really happy with the service!
Best VPN service . Thank you very much for this amazing deal
Just love it!
incredible VPN service . Thank you very much for this amazing deal. I love it :)
it is the BEST best vpn in the world thanks windescribe
An exceptional Giveaway. Picked it up ages ago and earned extra bandwidth!
Although now only 30GB is offered, it is still a solid offer.
Great server choice and speeds.
Just works, easy, handy, versatile.
I have the Pro version of this on a ‘lifetime’ deal from a year ago. I put lifetime in quotes because according to my account, they only expect me to live another ten years. Still, not bad.
Pretty good VPN, although I don’t run it full time. I get full speed through it going through a local location. I don’t see the point of going through a node in Lower Slobovia and cutting my data rate in half when the government can find you anyway if they want to (if you think otherwise, you are delusional). I just don’t want every site I visit to know exactly where I am, and that’s how I use it.
It has an issue with its built-in firewall. I don’t load it automatically with Windows. If you shut the machine down with the VPN running, then boot the next morning, it turns on the firewall even though the VPN part is not loaded, and you can’t figure out why you don’t have Internet access. Took me a while to find that, submitted a bug report, and several versions later, the bug is still there. “Just have it load with Windows” is not a solution when I don’t want that.
Their separate browser plug-in has issues in Chrome. It takes a while after Chrome loads for all the saved tabs to load properly, and sometimes, manual intervention (go back a page, reload) is required.
Overall not bad, and the lifetime thing was great, but it’s not perfect by any means. This is a decent deal to play with it, see if you like it.
Be forewarned. I tried Windscribe a year or so ago and, much to my disappointment, it didn’t play nice with the other kids in the neighborhood, Comcast and Thunderbird email. The bottom line was that using Windscribe made it impossible to use Thunderbird — at least with Comcast as my Internet service provider. Back then Comcast’s website reported that it didn’t work well with VPNs. I just checked Comcast’s website and now it says it plays well with VPNs, although you may have to get some technical advice from the VPN folks (and fortunately this Windscribe offer includes free tech support — Comcast does not provide any tech support for using VPNs). Except for that problem Windscribe worked just fine. So I’d just suggest that you check with your ISP before installing a VPN to make sure it will be compatible.

Works just fine with Spectrum and Thunderbird, has for at least the six months I’ve had it.
After a fair amount of research, this is one of three VPNs that I sampled and bought subscriptions for. (And it is now overdue for me to take another closer look at.) [There is an at-least annual and exhaustive survey of VPNs that is published at
https://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-services-keep-you-anonymous-in-2019/
and I have also found the comparative reviews at places like PC Mag online to be quite helpful. Along with the important technical aspects, you will want to check out where the company is based, their policy on keeping logs, and their posture towards cooperation with U.S. (or other) authorities and court orders.]
I mostly liked what I saw of Windscribe, especially from an ease of use perspective, but more recently I have been leaning towards the Perfect Privacy VPN. One thing I had been watching was Windscribe’s reliance on StrongSwan for use on Android devices, while their own Windscribe APK was in beta under a long development process. That is something else I need to revisit.
The Best I have found so far and i have tried many including Okay freedom which was just given away not too long ago . I use to always get pinched by others because they did not hide my annonimity . This is not the case with Windscribe . I have been using this for over 2 years now i get 60 gbs a month free . When you refer others and they subscribe they give you an extra 10 gb for each new person . They do not pressure you to upgrade as long as you keep using it they do sell other add ons such as ROBERT which is access to more security features . Now as to the slow down i really have not noticed what some other reviewers have had . Of course my internet speed is 400 MBPS up and Down . Also you have to remember you are tapping in to an annonymous VPN server whose speeds amy not be up to yours . But if you require annonimity and dont want nasty letters from your ISP than this is the VPN for you . Since i have used it i have had no issues such as the connection dropping like Okay Freedom did and a couple of others . And no nasty emails from ISP . Give it a try i generally use a US based IP or one from Canada
I keep getting spam from this VPN for several months now at my other email account but anytime I click on their link I get their logo on a gray page with the text: Oops, that shouldn’t happen.
It seems someone tripped over the power cable and broke everything. Please stand by while we fix it.
You can check our Twitter for updates.” And nothing more. I can send a screenshot, if desired. So, they are off, or have blocked my location or what? Tried here, same result. IMHO, this is the worst VPN service I have ever seen. I use AVG Secure VPN and it is fantastic, countless servers all over the world, VERY FAST, ie. practically no difference in speed when browsing without VPN, and never encountered any downtime in several months I’ve been using it. highly recommended instead of this Windscribe here.
is one of the best VPNs I’ve used with a very intuitive and very easy to use interface
This is such an amazing VPN service I’ve ever used! Hope this will become better and better.
Well, read all those reviews up here and you’ll find more pros than cons about windscribe VPN. And with this offer of (50+10+60GB) 60 GB free. They stand far better from all the competetion. There VPN technology and reliability is also good undoughtly. So all said and read, Windscribe is a top choice among VPN’s with this latest free offer. Thank you Windscribe and thank you shareware , love you.
I am a pro user and using Windscribe over 4 months now. Very happy with this service. Try it, you will love it.
Windscribe is only VPN that works well on my college restrictive network.
Having used VPNs for many years (both private and public) I can say that Windscribe is one of the best VPNs you can get.
Setup is super simple for the desktop program and the browser extensions, making it very noob friendly as there are no confusing options that need to be setup before diving in.
As stated by others, the speed impact is almost nil. Even when connecting to servers outside your country/state/province. Of all the VPNs I have tried, Windscribe has the least system speed impact. Even when double-hopping the speed only dropped by less than 0.71 Mbps.
The biggest concern, for me anyway, about VPNs is IP leaking. With Windscribe’s firewall setup you don’t have to worry. I have tried various apps and sites to check if my true IP was being seen and, with the exception of one specialized program, my actual IP was not detected.
Customer service is also fantastic. When I first starting using the free version, I had a problem with the driver corrupting on a Windows 7 pro system which required an uninstall/reinstall every time I wanted to use the VPN. I contacted support and by the end of the day had the issue resolved by a very friendly CS rep.
I literally fell in love with this VPN, so much so that I went ahead and purchased the lifetime pro license. If you want a quality VPN with minimal fuss, then you cannot go wrong by getting Windscribe.
This is the first VPN I have tried, and am very pleased so far. Fast, easy U I. Thanks for a Great Program!
Works like a dream. Highly recommended.
Pro
– Browser extensions means user doesn’t have to install an application
Con
– Location of VPN for free users are limited to a few western countries, just like many other free VPN services
VPN is a must-have for everyone who uses internet nowadays. In simple word VPN is needed to protect you from online bad guys and identity thieves. It is important if you do not want your ISP to log and monitor your online activity, it can also be used to hide your IP address so you can protect your identity and location. VPN also allows users to access georestricted content in most cases.
Windscribe VPN is a new yet efficient and reliable VPN service. It is a lightweight software application that helps you securely and anonymously browse the Internet, using encrypted tunnel connections to the servers which blocks ad trackers and identity thieves. Windscribe offers Windows & Mac app and plugins for Opera, Firefox, and Chrome. It is also available for use on the iOS, whereas the Android version has not been released yet.
Overview
The windows installer size is small (~15MB) and the installation process is pretty simple and straightforward. The UI is modern and intuitive, offering all the basic controls needed to start the VPN connection. After logging in with your account, all you need to do is to choose your preferred location and click the ON/OFF button. The free license gives you 10GB/month bandwidth for 1 computer and access to 8 server locations with all the other features. The PRO license offers unlimited devices with unlimited bandwidth and access to 45 server locations. The license provided on here gives you 60GB/month for 1 computer for lifetime with access to servers in 8 countries, which very very generous for a VPN that works and performs really well. Along with providing a secure VPN, Windsribe offers a lot of features like firewall, ad blocker, tracker blocker, securelink generator and a lot more.
Pros
Modern & Clean UI
The UI of the Windows application is clean and well-designed. Only the important stuff is placed on the menu which makes it suitable for all kinds of users. There is a drop down menu to choose you desired location and a big round ON/OFF button to toggle VPN ON/OFF. The top-right side shows the remaining data allowance of your subscription and the bottom has a button to turn the Firewall ON/OFF. The current IP is also displayed and you can also rate the connection to the specific server depending on your experience. The browser plugins are designed pretty much on the same pattern as the Windows application, except their UI has ‘Secure.Link Generator’ at the bottom instead of firewall toggle button.
Little to almost no impact on speeds
Speed drop is the issue that everyone using a VPN has to face, but I have been using Windscribe for long and have experienced very minor speed drops on all kinds of networks I use ranging from 100Mbps to 4Mbps. The speed drop is hardly 1Mpbs to 1.5Mbps on download and on upload its like 0.1Mbps, which hardly noticeable. The connection is the best and the fastest if you connect to the server nearest to your actual location.
Secure.Link, Firewall, Adblocker and more..
Secure.Link generator works like a URL shortening service and allows you to generate unique links of your own. The link you generate Secure.Link for, is scanned for ad beacons and third-party trackers, and is given a privacy score (from A to F). The generated link can be password-protected and you can add a message to it when sharing it with your friends. You can also request your friends to install Windscribe to be able to view the URLs.
Firewall adds an extra layer of security to your connection, it blocks all the internet connections from your PC if you are not connected to the Windscribe server. This helps to ensure that your real IP is never exposed online, in case something goes wrong and you are disconnected from VPN.
Adblock blocks the ads on the pages that you visit, known ad beacons and trackers are also blocked. ‘Split Personality’ randomly changes your user agent and ‘Anti-social'(experimental) removes social media buttons from the pages you visit. If you want all these settings to not take effect on a particular website, you can add that website to the ‘Whitelist’ and these settings will not take effect on that site.
Different Connection modes to suit your needs
The desktop application lets you choose connection to different locations on your own, or you can select the ‘Best location’ from the drop down list and it automatically connects you to the fastest and best server available. The browser extension has a ‘Cruise Control’ mode that automatically changes your location if it detects that the site you are trying to access is blocked on your current IP. If you run the desktop app and the browser plugin together, your connection mode becomes ‘Double Hop’, this double proxy your traffic which means it is more secure but it is not recommended for slow bandwidth connections.
The default connection mode is UDP protocol, if your ISP is keeping a strict check of the network it is difficult to connect to VPN. If it fails you can use the TCP protocol and it case of it failing too, you have to use TCP via Stunnel. It is recommended to use TCP and TCP via Stunnel only in case UDP fails, because these are a bit slower.
Cons
Impacts Ping a lot
Speed is not affected by Windscribe, but like all other VPN the Ping is. On my network I usually get around 40-60ms Ping test result, but with Windscribe connected it takes 250-400ms on almost all the servers.
Asks to Login again sometimes
It does not happen frequently but running the browser plugin mostly, I am asked to login again sometimes. However, it is easily fixed and gets back to normal after restarting the browser (Google Chrome).
My Favourite Features
Works well even without desktop application
I have been using it for more than a year now, and I do not even use desktop client much at all. The browser extensions are powerful and capable enough to keep you safe and secure while you browse.
Ease of use & Fast connection
It is very easy to use and understand, and anyone even novices can use it to secure their connections. The speed of connection to the servers is impressive too, I have never experiences such fast speeds to servers in any other VPN I have used. It just takes like 5 seconds and you’re connected and good to go.
Best free VPN
It is the best free VPN available out there, it offers you 10GB/month with 8 locations for 1 PC. That is a very suitable license for a home user who is not a heavy user. Moreover the 60Gb/month lifetime for 1 computer with 8 locations is very generous for a VPN that works so well.
Conclusion
Windscribe VPN might be a newbie to the VPN market, but it has definitely caught the attention of many users since it started. It’s users both paid and free ones are happy with the overall experience it provides them. Windscribe provides a handy solution to everyone looking to access restricted content to their geographic region, block tracking and make sure that they are keeping their online activity private from their ISP. Powerful and fully-functional browser extension for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera make this tool stand out against the older competitors. It is definitely worth trying out if you want to get a good VPN experience with strong security for cheap.
THIS IS A FANTASTIC PROGRAM, I JUST TRIED IT…WOW! BIG THANK YOU TO SHAREWAREONSALE AND WINDSCRIBE! GRACIAS! MERCI!
I used the previous Windscribe VPN giveaway of 50GB & liked it very much specially the part as i only have to install a google extension & no desktop software as i don’t like to install softwares willy-nilly. I primarily use chrome so i was more than happy with just an extension of windscribe. After using it for about half a year, i bought the premium version. I am very happy with it.
Now the giveaway is back, enjoy everyone, this is a great offer & a super VPN service.
Happy Holidays to everyone.
Many reasons exist for one to use a VPN. The most important reason is privacy. Given the ever-increasing cases of cyberattacks, you have all the rights to secure your sensitive information and you surf the web. In the process of browsing the internet with a virtual private network program like Windscribe VPN, which I have been using in the past few days, you also get access to geo-restricted content. Here is my experience so far with this VPN.
At a glance
Within a few minutes, I was done with the installation steps. Right off the bat, I was impressed by the program’s minimalistic and intuitive UI. As a result, the steps required to use its features are only single clicks away. It is also worth noting that this Windscribe VPN gets you 50 GB of data per month. Since the VPN has two tools; installation file and a browser extension, you should use both for the best results.
Pros
Multiple security layers
This version of Windscribe VPN makes it easy to choose your virtual location in a few clicks. By doing so, you will already be browsing the internet anonymously. In addition, the program gives you the option to turn on your Firewall for extra protection. One can choose to turn off Firewall when using a LAN connection.
While still dwelling on security, this VPN offers various connection modes. These connection methods are helpful in avoiding detection that you are using a VPN. The modes are UDP protocol, TCP protocol, and TCP protocol via Stunnel.
Further, I was resting easy while using Windscribe VPN because of its IPv6 and DNS lead protection coupled with AES-256 encryption.
Additional configuration options
To access these options, head over to the Preferences pane by clicking on the ribbons on the top left side of Windscribe VPN’s window. Afterward, you can opt to let the VPN launch on Startup, Auto-connect to your most recent location, and most important, Allow LAN connection while the firewall is on. If you are using a proxy, this window will let you configure it as well.
50 GB of Data
The 50 GB of browsing data that this version of Windscribe VPN gives you is quite impressive compared to what other players give. A classic example is Tunnel Bear VPN that only gives you 500 MB of data per month. That is why Windscribe VPN takes the day when it comes to offering free data for the free version of the VPN.
Handy browser extension
As mentioned above, Windscribe VPN has a browswer extension for Google Chrome, Opera, and Firefox. The extension is helpful in the sense that it not only blocks ads as you browse, but also prevents trackers from noting your browsing behavior.
Con
Impacts internet speed
When running a VPN, it is almost a foregone conclusion that it will impact your internet speeds. That was the same case with Windscribe VPN. To determine this, I used the recurring ping test on the Command Prompt to see how fast the connection was replying to the ping requests. Unsurprisingly, the reply was much slower by about 150 ms. From a general point of view, this impact is insignificant but the same cannot be said to internet speed enthusiasts.
Verdict
If you are looking for a free but reliable VPN program, look no further than this offer of Windscribe VPN. It gives you access to almost all the features in the Pro version. Notably, you will also enjoy using its intuitive UI, which further makes it easy to use right away after installation.

Its 60 GB in fact.
Totally new to a secure/private connection,…
Not really need it mostly but for usage once in a while I tought hell yeah :)
It’s a very good package I think, activating and installing and subscription all in around 5min.
Great offer for people that are new to things like this and want to try it out.
I like it very very much. I think 50gb/mo is more than generous. My speeds are just fine with this VPN. Also it passes all the leak tests webpages I visit. Another bonus is that the browser extension privacy options work very well. I am very glad I gave this VPN a try. If all stays well with Windscribe I will happily purchase it when my promo runs out. Great software, great giveaway!
I guess I don’t understand the conclusion of Dennis Nelson’s otherwise comprehensive review above at all: only 3 stars? Yes, the VPN “only” gives 50GB per month of data, under this *free* license–where other VPNs with a free offer only give 2 or 3GB per month. ! I haven’t seen any other free offer even approaching this generosity–and with no ads, no less. And connection to “very few countries”? There are 9, across the globe, likely more than enough for most people. (And if you need more, get the Windscribe paid version.) And I haven’t had *any* connection speed issue or, seemingly, any lower connection speed–which, frankly, surprised me.
Only a recent user of Windscribe, I’ve been impressed by it (ease of installation, ease of use and behavior, and data speed), based on limited use. Once I turn the VPN service on (a quick button click on a Notification area application–connection modifications can be made there as well, if one wants; and if the VPN service has not yet been opened and signed in on during the current PC session, before turning the VPN connection on, you simply need to open the application and sign in (if you haven’t set the software to do that automatically), also a simple button click), it’s as if my PC is as it always has been–websites appear quickly and I don’t notice any time lags, including in watching Youtube video. Again, this is based on limited usage, but hopefully this is indicative of the service.
In the end, I would give this free license and offer a solid 4 starts, if not 4-and-a-half or higher. And I highly recommend Windscribe, based on my initial use of its service. By the way: Windscribe customer service gets an “A,” responding to an email inquiry I had within minutes.

50 GB total, not monthly. As read on their website page. That is not bad at all if we consider the positive points listed in your review and that any VPN SERVICE needs money to run. .On top they made the same offer 6 months ago on this same site. So, thanks to Windscribe and SonS for 100GB so far
Well, now it’s down to 10 GB and 8 countries. I guess the early worms got the best deal.
Amazing VPN service . Thank you very much for this amazing deal. I love it :)
Windscribe is awesome and speed fast enabled. so i highly recommend to everyone
do you wish to get the best vpn for your online activities? if yes, why not try Windscribe because the best of vpn come first using Windscribe. the speed per second is very sweet
Fast and secure. tnx
Dropped my download and upload speeds by half.
Software is very good, is that I will not English
Amazing VPN service . Thank you very much for this amazing deal. I love it :)
Dennis’s review is pretty comprehensive, but has several inaccuracies. Secure Link generator WILL NOT automatically check links for you, and will not cause any performance degradation in the browser. Its an awareness + promotional tool and you have to actively use it to create secure links. You can learn more about Secure Link here: https://windscribe.com/securelink
First part of the “Security & Privacy” section is also very unclear in terms of what “couldn’t return any data” means. When you are connected, your external IP becomes that of the server you’re connected to. Its as simple as that.
Windscribe is an excellent full-featured VPN with an exceptionally well designed user interface. It is easily amongst the top ten software I’ve ever been offered on this site. In my opinion 50 GB per month for a year is a generous giveaway. So I’m appalled by the 3-star review above. In particular, complaints about the “small number of countries” are petty when every major country in the world is on the list, and every continent is represented. Many thanks to Windscribe and SOS for this outstanding giveaway.
Read Replies |
Not every continent or major country is represented – Australia is not on the list!!!
Australia is on the list. The list isn’t in alphabetical order. Just scroll down.
I’m going to put in another good word for these guys because a year after installing it, I’m still very happy with Windscribe. It is so easy to use and has never let me down. And now the offer has been upgraded to 60 GB per month *for life* with free updates. That’s unusually generous. If my future VPN requirement ever increases, I know exactly what product I want.
I agree entirely; It’s great software and a generous Giveaway…one of the best ever given
This works great. I got started with Windscribe in under 5 minutes and been very impressed so far. Speeds are great, I can’t even tell Im connected to a VPN. Im also very impressed with how simple and nice looking the app is. A+ so far!
Windscribe is a new entrant in the VPN sector, but looks braced for the competitive niche with a wide range of solutions designed to help protect your data and enhance your privacy online. The VPN offers a native windows app and plugins for Opera, Firefox, and Chrome, which not only block trackers, but also adds. The chrome add-on will work on any chromium based browser including Comodo. Another outstanding aspect is that it comes bundled with a secure link generator that will check links in advance to eliminate trackers and inform you of the safety of a url before you access it. However, this has a slight impact on the performance of your browser.
User Interface
Installing Windscribe is a breeze, unlike Total VPN, you don’t have to wait for long periods to get it up and running. The intuitive cool blue interface occupies only a small portion of your screen, even smaller than HMA. This version will only give you 50GB, which is clearly indicated on the right side of the homepage. The dropdown at the middle allows you to choose countries to connect to and I was a bit disappointed with the few countries available. Although I won’t hang the noose round its neck since it’s only a new VPN provider and is expected to grow soon. Below there is a toggle that shows whether a firewall is on or off, always keep this on to enhance your safety.
Speed Test
Just like most VPNs, Windscribe cut my internet speed by almost half. Youtube videos which used to stream by default at 1080p were now reduced to 480p and to access websites, I had to wait a few seconds longer, when I used a USA-based IP. Switching to Netherlands or Hong Kong didn’t solve the problem either, although I noticed choosing a country nearest to your location gave improved results.
VPN Server Locations
Currently, Windscribe has just about 20 server locations located in 19 different countries. Being a new VPN provider, I’m expecting it to grow. This version only allows you to access about 9 locations, with the only icing being that you can use UK and US servers.
Security & Privacy
Surprisingly some of the sites I used to check my location couldn’t return any data. Only two of the 7 sites could display my new IP and location. This is a worry since an unclear location might cause you to be blocked from services such as gmail. On their part, Windscribe indicates that security starts from the firewall level, with their embedded firewall designed to close a connection if the VPPN drops and reactivates when it reconnects. There is also IPv6 and DNS leak protection by default.
This VPN service uses AES-256 with SHA512 and a 4096-bit RSA Key, which are good enough for a VPN service, and at par with most VPNs. It uses OpenVPN UDP by default but you can easily change this on the settings page.
Pros
• Nice interface
• Connects quickly
• Multiple layers of security
• Embedded firewall
Cons
• Slower connections
• Gives 50GB only
• Very few countries
Conclusion
Windscribe is a new VPN service that is easy to use and provides multiple layers of protection. It has very few countries to select from and this version only offers 50GB. Despite this, it performs decently and is worth a try.

only 3 stars? this deserves 5 stars. I have tried dozens of VPNs, and this one is one of the best, in fact, it is usually rated in the top 10% of all VPNs for Windows computers.
How can you say the cons is “50 GB” only. It considered generous if you see other VPN provider who had free service they usually give 500MB to 2 GB per month at most. Also, “few country” location is true only if you compare them to other major VPN but it is quite good consider Windscribe is a new comer. I only agree with that the server is slow but recently with the beta application they had new ikev2 protocol which I am quite satisfy with the speed I get. Probably another reason for Windscribe slow server is the continuous abuse of their free service tho they claim free user and Pro user had separate server and will not affect each other which I doubt.
