De Woordstart App voor Android tablets kan op ieder moment van de dag gedownload worden. Even activeren via uw e-mailadres en uw zoon of dochter kan direct aan de slag. De App heeft steeds verbinding met de cloud nodig en slaat daar resultaten op.
Het bestand Woordstart bestaat uit 86 oefeningen. In totaal bestaat dit lesbestand uit ongeveer 1700 opdrachten. Daarbij wordt gebruikgemaakt van acht verschillende oefenvormen. Er zijn meer dan 1100 plaatjes en bijna 1400 geluidsbestanden gebruikt.
Woordstart is naast elke lesmethode te gebruiken. De leerling moet alleen enige ervaring hebben in het werken met zijn vingers (aan¬wijzen, tikken), wat meestal geen probleem is.
Ontbreekt deze ervaring, dan is een korte instructie geboden. Aan te raden is sowieso om leerlingen die voor het eerst met het programma werken wat extra te begeleiden.
Kinderen hoeven voor het werken met Woordstart 1 nog niet te kunnen lezen. Het programma is zo gemaakt dat er niets gelezen hoeft te worden, de kleuter wordt mondeling gestuurd en moet zelf alleen maar aanklikken of aanwijzen. Woorden worden daadwerkelijk aangeboden en aangeleerd.
Als in groep 3 het eigenlijke leesonderwijs begint, moeten leerlingen in elk geval een aantal belangrijke begrippen kennen die niet altijd thuis al zijn aangeleerd. En dat kan met behulp van de Woordstart App. Een mooie voorbereiding op groep 3 dus.
Voor kleine kinderen is het beter om niet te lang achter elkaar te oefenen. Een paar maal per week een kwartier is vrijwel altijd veel effectiever dan eenmaal per week een half uur of een uur.
